Word is that 3D Realms is shutting down.
Thoughts go to all the folks over there, I spend a few years there, good buncha folks.
Take care all, and best of luck.

They’ll be missed – I played Duke Nukem 3D before going back and visiting Doom (such was the time I grew up).
Best of luck to them all.

Such a loss for the gaming history, damn. I hope the guys will be immediately hired somewhere else.

That’s really sad. I want to play ROTT now.
What does this mean regarding old games, will they remain for sale as they were before on a 3DRealms site and development just stops? Or do they go down with the 3D Realms ship?
And it’s a shame that DNF will never surface.

This is so sad… I grew up with 3D Realms games. I hate this. 😥

It’s been mentioned on some of the news sites that Apogee Software, LLC, which was spun off as a new company somehow last year, will continue to operate. Exactly how that works isn’t particularly clear, but I reckon the old games will still be for sale.
And DNF is bound to surface someday, one way or another. There’s just too much money to be made.

Well, Joe Siegler has since said that 3D Realms will continue to exist as an entity. A website should stay up, and the games released to this point will remain on sale.
However, there wasn’t enough funding to maintain the studio, so production ended, sadly rendering everyone redundant.
I wish them all the best.

Ah, Apogee, how I shall miss thee. (Yeah, It just doesn’t feel natural typing 3D Realms. They’ll always be Apogee to me!)
I sincerely hope something good comes their way, and they get back into producing games again. Apogee was incredible during the 90s, and although I couldn’t afford full versions of the games back then, I’d play the shareware versions ad infinitum.
3D Realms, don’t be downhearted, because once you get a few dollars in your piggybank, you just know there’ll be an army of fans eagerly awaiting your next game. We miss you already.
Oh, and Tom? I’ve got my faithful old ROTT CD here, and aside from chuckling at the pictures of you and the other Developers of Incredible Power, I’ve come to the conclusion that even though it wasn’t as good as it could have been (because of the leftover Wolfenstein-Sequel stuff, and still using the Wolf3D engine instead of the Build Engine) It’s still an incredible game, which pushed the limits of the engine it was using,
and personally, I find it infinitely more fun than DOOM ever was.
Peace & Love, Tom. Like 3D Realms, I hope your future brings something good.
All the best,
The Wannabe Developer of Mediocre Power. 😉

If you’ve not been keeping track, the 3D Realms store is back at http://www.buy3drealms.com , and the games are more affordable than ever – except they’re still charging twice the price what Steam is selling Commander Keen for. Oh well.

Is there maybe a chance that you get a hold of the commander keen licenses and make something NEW and EXCITING withit? *hint*hint*hint*

i’ve been playing a lot of the older apogee games lately. you should make a parody, but obvious replacement for the universe in toast and make it look just like a dos game ala megaman 9. that probably sounds ridiculous, but i would play the shit out of it.
